Organizational Description: Ai-Kon is a registered non-profit organization that hosts Manitoba's premier and largest anime convention. It is also one of the largest conventions of its kind in Western Canada.

Our main event entails a three day celebration of video gaming, animation, and Japanese culture held annually at the Winnipeg RBC Convention Centre. We also hold a 1 day convention in February, Winterfest, with all the excitement and main events into 12 hours.

The convention is a family friendly event suitable to all ages.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: This primarily involves being the point of contact for all external promotional organizations/conventions both before and during the conventions.
Upon contact by an external organization, in regards to promotions outside of Ai-Kon's two main conventions, this candidate would be expected to professionally and intelligently respond to any inquiries regarding our operations or history.
This position is responsible for the following duties:
%u2022 Coordinates in-person opportunities at promotional events, public location, and other conventions that would allow Ai-Kon to have promotional exposure.
%u2022 Is the on-location point of contact
%u2022 Scheduling and supervising Ai-Kon staff to main tables at other external events
%u2022 Printing and coordinating event/external convention promotional materials
%u2022 Developing and administering promotional contests to create hype for attended events.
%u2022 Works with the Social Media Coordinator to provide on-location promotional material, to schedule announcements for upcoming events
%u2022 At Winterfest or Ai-Kon acts as a liaison to other attending conventions
Skills Required: Excellent writing and social skills are a must.
Must be able to make oneself available to attend conventions.
Must own reliable vehicle or have access to a vehicle are required.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Supervisory experience of teams 3 to 10 volunteers.
Project management portfolio expereince.
High profile communications positions and networking with many Canadian not-for-profit organizations and cultural events.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Evening, Weekend
Please note that the duties of this position require the individual to attend conventions and promotional events throughout the year. Organization meetings typically occur on Sundays in the afternoon. Generally, the committee meeting schedule is as follows: Sept to Apr - Once a month Apr to June - Twice a month June to July - Every week 3-day 24-hour convention in July 1 day 24-hour convention in February Department meeting are additional and occur once per month. Must be willing to be interviewed at the convention and make one's self-available for interviews outside of the convention.
