Organizational Description: Mission: The Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities is a united voice of people with disabilities, and their supporters, that promotes equal rights, full participation in society, and facilitates positive change through advocacy and public education.

MLPD is a provincial not-for-profit organization and a Canadian Registered Charitable Organization since 1975, Registration number: 889197448 RR 0001, that works locally, provincially and nationally to promote accessibility and inclusion for people of all abilities.

We are a group of experienced, diverse, influential and engaging staff and volunteers who educate and offer advice gained from personal or family experience on a wide range of topics and issues relating to accessibility.

MLPD works locally, provincially and nationally by contributing to other community initiatives and organizations like the Council for Canadians with Disabilities (CCD).

MLPD is dedicated to making Manitoba a fully accessible province where all people, no matter their ability, are provided the same rights and freedoms.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Due to mandatory, end-of term retirements MLPD is currently seeking Provincial Council (Board of Directors) members from across the province who will support our mission, and to assist us in achieving our goals.
Council members:
Are expected to participate in monthly Board meetings held by conference call
Must be a member in good standing with MLPD; (no membership fee)
Ideally have lived experience with a disability.
Attend the Annual AGM for MLPD.
Skills Required: We are seeking individuals who are passionate about our goals, with knowledge and/or skills in one or more areas of board governance, advocacy, business related skills such as accounting, public relations, legal skills, fundraising skills and/or accessibility knowledge and the ability to work within the community to build partnerships.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Work within the community of persons with disabilities.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Evening
Meetings are usually 60 to 75 minutes by conference call; typically at 6:30 pm on a week-day evening. In between meetings members may be asked to participated in other related activities depending on time availability, skills and the needs of MLPD.
