Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Make a meaningful difference in the lives of people impacted by cancer by joining the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life organizing committee in Selkirk!

The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is a community fundraising event where Canadians across the country join together in the fight against cancer and will take place in Selkirk in September 2019.

As a committee member, you can help support Canada's most promising cancer research and vital support services for people with cancer and their families. Planning and organizing a successful Relay for Life in your community means the Society is able to impact so many lives.
Skills Required: The idea committee member has:

- The ability to work independently and as a team.
- Competency in both oral and written English.
- Experience in their area of interest on the committee (details below).
- Passion for the cancer cause.
- Regular access to a computer with internet.
- Access to a vehicle and valid driver's licence (some positions only).

Available committee positions include:

> Committee Chair - Guide and support the entire planning committee, oversee all Relay activities, and steward fundraising teams, survivors, volunteers and sponsors to ensure the event is enjoyed by all.

> Teams Chair - Engage new and existing fundraising teams to participate in Relay, promote fundraising activities, and host team captain meetings.

> Volunteer Chair - Recruit, coordinate, and manage volunteers for all aspects of Relay for both pre-event activities and event day.

> Survivor Chair - Engage and recruit cancer survivors to participate in the event, creating a special opportunity at the Relay to celebrate their cancer journey.

> Activities, Entertainment & Ceremonies Chair - Organize event ceremonies, schedule activities and performers during the Relay.

> Finance Chair - Provide book keeping services for the event and liaise with staff partner to ensure proper financial process and procedures are followed.

> Logistics Chair - work with planning committee to determine and oversee all event logistics (i.e. sit map, set up and tear down, equipment rentals, etc.)

> Food & Beverage Chair - Coordinate food and beverage requirements for all Relay participants and volunteers at the event.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: You will gain and experience:

- Contributing to the organization's vision of a world where no Canadian fears cancer.

- Developing your organizational and project management skills.

- Developing addition skills in your committee position role.

- Working collaboratively to build relationships with like minded volunteers in your community.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
Time commitment as follows: - Monthly committee meetings. - Tasks averaging 2-5 hours per week, depending on the scope of tasks and time remaining until Relay for Life event. - Attendance and leadership at pre-Relay promotional events. - In person availability during month of the Relay (September 2019). Please note, hours per week may increase in weeks leading up to the event.
