Organizational Description: Ai-Kon is a registered non-profit organization that hosts Manitoba's premier and largest anime convention. It is also one of the largest conventions of its kind in Western Canada.

Our main event entails a three day celebration of video gaming, animation, and Japanese culture held annually at the Winnipeg RBC Convention Centre. We also hold a 1 day convention in February, Winterfest, with all the excitement and main events into 12 hours.

The convention is a family friendly event suitable to all ages.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Initial point of contact for sponsors, corporations and industry representatives. Upon contact respond professionally and forward communications to appropriate committee members
Review external communications and policy documents to ensure Ai-Kon maintains a consistent appearance that aligns with organizational policies
Explains Ai-Kon's mandate to potential partners; ensures a cohesive message to stakeholders
Creates a yearly policy for external business/organizations/partners wishing to use Ai-Kon as a means of advertising, sponsorship, and trade campaigns. Ensures that these policies are implemented and advertised accurately.
Monitors partnerships, company agreements, and trade agreements are completed and properly documented
Renews and builds on past relations in previous years
Expand and obtain new partnership/sponsorships at a corporate international level
Requests and manages donations/sponsorships from these partners
Acts as Prize Manager organizes donations/exchanges/purchases into manageable prize pools to be utilized by different aspects of the convention (contests, volunteer rewards).
Ensuring all prizes that require hard copy printing (i.e.: coupons) are manufactured prior to the event
Works with the screening coordinator to request permissions and screener discs.
Ensure that company's screening requirements are related to the screening coordinator for implementation
The point of contact for designated Industry guests sought by the convention and industry related parties.
Ensure that Guests and staff receive appropriate per diems
Manages assigned industry guest chaperones and creates the guest itinerary
Creates guest baskets and makes sure registration and on-site requirements are requested
Forwards events/panels information and on-site requirements to applicable staff
Relays corporate guest information/travel requirements with the hotel/ travel liaison
Contacts partners/sponsors after the convention with a follow-up overview email of the event
Skills Required: Candidates must have a vehicle to be able to pick and drop off department materials at times throughout the year.
Strong writing skills are a requirement.
Previous sales, public relations, marketing or external outreach experiences an asset.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Building portfolio experience in corporate relations, marketing, and customer service.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Evening, Weekend
