We are a not-for-profit organization that offers a wide range of programs and services to support individuals and their families.

St.Amant programs include a large residence for complex-care, more than 50 community sites and homes, the St.Amant Research Centre, the St.Amant School and River Road Child Care, a community child-care centre. We offer effective programs for children with autism and also for families who care for an individual with a developmental disability at home.

We strive to enhance the quality of life and self-determination for the thousands of individuals and families we serve each year. We are also a member of the Catholic Health Network.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Position Summary: Health Information Services is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual who is interested in gaining significant hands-on experience in an office setting.

Reporting to the Health & Privacy Officer, the Medical Records volunteer will assist in a broad range of administrative support services in accordance with the mission, values, philosophy and the policies and procedures of St.Amant.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform general clerical duties including photocopying, fax and mailings
Handle requests for information and data and follow up within the department
Files and maintains files as directed
Moving boxes of medical records (charts)
Archiving medical records in accordance with all policies and procedures of St.Amant
Assist with color coding and labeling boxes appropriately
Must follow all privacy laws and regulations

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a volunteer to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer may be required to walk, sit, stand for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, lift, and carry. The ability to write clearly and legibly may be required. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Skills Required: Qualifications:
Minimum 18 years old; shows good level of maturity
Medical Records related courses are an asset
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple deadlines
Ability to problem-solve in a fast paced work environment
Outgoing, enthusiastic and creative
Must show responsibility in meeting commitment and being reliable
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word and Excel
Excellent date entry accuracy
Experience in creating and maintain standard templates and forms
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work closely and constructively with others
Acceptable Criminal Record, Adult Abuse Registry and Child Abuse Registry Checks
Acceptable reference checks
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Administrative services in an office setting and meeting a wide variety of individuals
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime
The hours are flexible Monday to Friday based on an agreeable schedule with a minimum of 4 hours per week. All adult volunteers will need a Criminal Record Check, Adult and Child Abuse Registry Check; we do offer to submit this paperwork on your behalf for a $40 fee and once 100 volunteer hours have been completed with us you will receive a full refund. (We do not offer reimbursement for those who are placed in our volunteer program and have done the CRC, CAR & AAR on their own).
