Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: - Become familiar with the bylaws, mission, policies, and programs of Save Our Seine
- Review materials prior to board and committee meetings
- Attend regular board meetings (approximately 10/year)
- Review the organization's financial statements
- Attend the AGM
- Recommend potential nominees to the board
- Follow bylaws and board policies; recommend changes as needed
- Serve on committees
- Promote Save Our Seine to others within the community
- Provide advice on industry standards (e.g., safe work, volunteer programs, human resources)
- Contribute to annual fundraising efforts (e.g., personal contributions, identification of potential sponsors, preparing grant applications)
- Set strategic goals ensure that finances are use responsibly to reach agency goals
Skills Required: - Ability to listen and work well with other people; sensitivity to others
- Ability to ask questions and think clearly
- Honesty and personal integrity
- Initiative - takes responsibility and follows through on commitments
- Willingness to open doors in the community to cultivate relationships (fundraising, recruiting new board members or volunteers, etc.)
- Willingness to learn new things and develop new skills (e.g. reading and understanding financial statements)
- Concern for organizational development
Skills Gained/Related Careers: - Board members do not require any specific expertise
- It is desirable for the overall board to have some expertise in the following fields: accounting, law, fundraising, education, communication, social media, or science/consulting
Valuable experience will be gained in not-for-profit management and policy development
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
Meetings are usually in the evening to accommodate board members who work during the day.
