Organizational Description: Our mission statement is to empower, provide support, advocacy and guidance to women who are involved in the criminal justice system. We provide services for women who are incarcerated as well as in the community at our location on Selkirk Ave. Volunteers facilitate a variety of programs, perform office maintenance duties, tutor participants in our literacy program, assist with stocking our clothing depot and participate as members of our board.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: We provide advocacy, access to resources and support to women who are in conflict with the law. Some of the issues our clientele struggle to overcome addiction, poverty, mental health issues, marginalization, racism, long-term effects of residential schools and other forms of discrimination.
Skills Required: 1:Skills and knowledge in resume building and employment search
2:Experience in working with marginalized women is an asset
3:Respect for indigenous culture and people of all backgrounds is required
4:Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality with client
5:Working knowledge of MS Office and the internet
6:Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
7:Excellent organizational and problem-solving ability
8:Ability to inspire and motivate
