Organizational Description: Volunteer Services is dedicated to improving patient care and the quality of life for patients, visitors and staff at the Health Sciences Centre. HSC Volunteers fill a variety of roles in adult patient care, the Children's Hospital, retail and food services, PsycHealth, Rehab Hospital etc.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: -Provide friendly, courteous and prompt customer service including giving directions
-Greet every customer that enters the store
-Under the direction of the supervisor price new merchandise
-Maintain product knowledge and communicate out of stock items/customer requests to the supervisor
-Maintain a clean work area and assist in keeping Gift Shop neat
-Minimize the possibly of theft by constant surveillance of the Gift Shop
-Complete customer transactions including cash, debit, credit card & gift card
-Fill balloons and wrap flowers
-Answer the phones with proper telephone etiquette
-Replenishing/merchandising stock when requested
-Delivering flowers within HSC
-Assist in preparation for inventory annually
-Assisting with special promotions
-Pricing products to be placed on shelves
-Comfortable with cash and using a point of sales system
Skills Required: -Excellent customer service skills
-Comfortable working in a team setting
-Experience working with cash and handling retail transaction preferred
-Ability to understand and express oneself clearly and concisely in the English language
-Physically capable of performing responsibilities such as lifting 15 lb boxes
-Punctual and reliable
-Neat and clean in appearance following dress code with wearing of name tag and vest
-Ability to follow instructions
-Trustworthy and a clear criminal record
-Must respect the confidentiality policy of the hospital
-must be able to stand for the entire shift, 3.5 - 6 hours

Time Commitment: Daytime
Currently seeking daytime/weekday. Shifts are either 10:30am-1:30pm or 10:00am-1:00pm
