Organizational Description: LITE's mission is to promote Community Economic Development (CED) by supporting inner city programs in Winnipeg that provide jobs and training opportunities to the chronically underemployed. We do this by providing grants to partner organizations running these specific programs and by making strategic purchases to support the inner-city economy and employment. LITE directs donations to support jobs, and more importantly, to help people who want to overcome the challenges they face. Our name says it all: We invest locally toward employment.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Fulfill LITE's public relations and social media goals which engage Winnipeg workplaces in person and on social media.

Interview and take photos of workplace champions and community partners for communication materials.

Produce high-quality copy under the creative direction of staff or designated mentors.

Create engaging posts for social media platforms Respond and engage with LITE's social media followers.
Skills Required: Comfort in social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) Interest in honing writing and editing skills, including use of hashtags

A knack for taking photos for social media

Interest in developing interpersonal and communication skills under tight deadlines

An interest in exploring careers in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations; students currently enrolled in relevant programs are encouraged to apply

Indigenous people and newcomers are encouraged to apply. Residents living in an inner city neighbourhood are encouraged to apply.

For live events, access to a smart phone is required (WiFi can be provided).
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Practical experience in public relations / communications in a busy environment with tight time and budget restraints

Experience in "live" tweeting and professional social media engagement experience

Hone writing and public relations skills as well as engagement skills

Mentorship from experienced communicators and those working in creative and non-profit sectors.

Volunteers who complete 20 volunteer hours are eligible for a reference
Age: 17 and under, 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening
A 2 hour orientation on LITE's brand, impact and social media plan Average of 3 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months; Special events or project-based assignment may be available-contact us!
