Organizational Description: Main Street Project is a not for profit organization that provides a safe, respectful, accessible place for individuals at risk in the community. We have an emergency shelter, a drop-in centre, a detox unit and a transitional housing space for our patrons. We advocate for a more inclusive society and assist marginalized individuals to make real choices.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Establish relationships with clients, staff and other volunteers
Sort, package, shelve and organize delivery from Winnipeg Harvest
Greet and check in clients to ensure everyone is registered
Assist community members with food care packages, collecting grocery food, and other supplies such as clothing and household needs
Count and record remaining items at conclusion of the food bank
Adaptability to changing roles and responsibilities
Skills Required: Ability to work in a team setting
Strong organizational skills and time management
Demonstrate communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to assist individuals in vulnerable situations in a non-judgemental manner
Adhering to housing first and harm reduction philosophy
Adaptability to changing roles and responsibilities
Knowledge of the effects of mental health issues, poverty and Winnipeg's marginalized population is an asset
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Criminal record check including vulnerable sector check
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening
Wednesdays 12 - 8 PM Thursdays 9 AM - 12 PM
