Winnipeg since 1972. NorWest is a forerunner in taking a multi-service, holistic, team approach to health care. We provide a wide range of health related services including medical care, counselling, education and community outreach.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: - Help to create a safe, welcoming space at community resource centres
- Support staff by connecting with community, building relationships and making referrals to programs and services
- Use supportive listening skills to make connections with community during drop-in or program times
- Provide basic computer support and/or help with resumes
- Help community members fill out application forms
- Help with program organization, set up and clean up
- 4 - 6 month commitment preferred
Skills Required: - Social service skills, education or background
- respectful, non-judgmental, patient attitude
- very strong English language skills, for editing resumes
- maintain confidentiality and have clear boundaries
- understanding of social justice issues and the social determinants of health
Skills Gained/Related Careers: - social services and social work
- health and mental health
- community services, advocacy
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime
Once per week, for 3 three hours: Priority times are Mondays or Tuesdays and limited times Wed, Thurs or Fri Mornings, 9 - 12, or Afternoons 1:00 - 4:00 or 3:30-7:00 - Inkster area, north west Winnipeg
