We are a not-for-profit organization that offers a wide range of programs and services to support individuals and their families.

St.Amant programs include a large residence for complex-care, more than 50 community sites and homes, the St.Amant Research Centre, the St.Amant School and River Road Child Care, a community child-care centre. We offer effective programs for children with autism and also for families who care for an individual with a developmental disability at home.

We strive to enhance the quality of life and self-determination for the thousands of individuals and families we serve each year. We are also a member of the Catholic Health Network.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: The St.Amant Leisure Guide offers leisure and recreation opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities and autism who are supported by St.Amant or on our waitlist. Fall sessions run from September 10 to November 18 and will offer a variety of activities for all ages and abilities, both on-site and in external community settings.

Needed for: Assist in fostering inclusion in games in the pool, assist in maintaining safe and comfortable swims for all participants.

Other volunteer duties may include:
Report to the supervisor at beginning and end of shift
Receive assignments from facilitator
Assist with initiating, set-up and take down of leisure activities
Assist with transportation of residents
Interact with residents
Assist residents with participation in program activities
Skills Required: Must be comfortable supporting an individual in the pool; no lifeguard on duty; but will have adult supervision on the deck.

Minimum 16 years old; shows good level of maturity
Strong interpersonal skills; patient
Must be able to physically able to push children/adults in wheelchairs
Must show responsibility in meeting commitment and being reliable
Must be able to follow instructions, be flexible when activities change
Must be able to take initiative
Must be interested, willing and committed to develop relationships with assigned residents
Must be willing to work cooperatively with staff, other volunteers and individuals living at the Centre
Acceptable Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Checks (18 and over)
Acceptable reference checks
Parental consent (18 years and under)
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Gain experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities

Here are the dates: -Sept 12, 2017 -Sept 19, 2017 -Sept 26, 2017 -Oct 3, 2017 -Oct 10, 2017 -Oct 17, 2017 -Oct 24, 2017 -No class Oct 31, 2017 (Halloween) -Nov 7, 2017 Time: 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm We have found a benchmark of Level 7 or higher works well for our volunteer placements in reading; writing; listening and speaking. If a successful match is made between your skills and abilities, Volunteer Services will offer you a volunteer position. If you decide to accept the offer, we will discuss a start date with you after completing the orientation; completion of references checks and screening. All volunteer placements are done through the volunteer office including reassignments. Volunteering is an exciting and challenging experience. (We do not offer reimbursement for those who are placed in our volunteer program and have done the CRC, CAR & AAR on their own).
