Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Sustain and nurture families who attend THRIVE child care centre by:

Developing, creating and maintaining a welcoming, nurturing, safe and inspiring environment

Committing to all families and accepting of individuals from diverse backgrounds

Specific duties, assignments, responsibilities:

Welcome parents as they come into the centre, build rapport with child care staff and children

Light housekeeping such as dishes, wiping tables, sweeping floors, preparing snacks and end of day clean up

Be prepared to participate outdoors, dress appropriately & supervise children outside

Play with the children, communicate to staff regarding children, periodic head counts

Provide emotional support to children, guide children's behavior using centre behavior management policy and MELCC Best Practices guide (available on Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care website)

Assist staff with the preparation, cleaning and maintenance of materials/toys/equipment used in the childcare area and the outdoor playground
Skills Required: -enthusiasm for children
-effective communication
-respect of differences in children and adults
-ability to be physically active with the children/lift children/put out children's cots
Skills Gained/Related Careers: This is excellent experience towards gaining employment in an Early Childhood Program. Our unique child care centre is diverse, multicultural and part of a supportive inner city agency: Thrive Community Support Circle. University students, or those requiring volunteer hours in community support work/therapy/social services/education should apply.
Employment with THRIVE is not guaranteed but involvement/performance will predict future opportunities.

Time Commitment: Daytime
Shifts can be flexible depending on your schedule. We are not open evenings or weekends.
