Organization Details
Organization Name: Simaril Inc.
Address: 850A Pembina Highway
Winnipeg MB  R3M 2M7
Website: www.simaril.ca
Organizational Description: Simaril Inc., opened its doors in 1987 as part of the Welcome Home program which was developed to assist people living at the Manitoba Developmental Centre to move from the institution into the community. Three people were welcomed into their new home in the St. Vital area in February of that year.
In January 1988, and then again in March 1989, two more homes were opened in the same area. And so began the Community Residential Program.
People supported by this service receive 24 hour supports to live and participate in the community.
Over the past 27 years the Simaril community has evolved its person-centered model, but the essence of this original philosophy of family atmosphere is still present in the close-knit atmosphere and the ability of each person to get to know everyone else receiving supports. Simaril looks forward to supporting more people to live and thrive as inclusive members of the community with the goal to expand services and opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities.

Residential Program:

Simaril's residential program consists of homes within the community that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Support is provided to people from all walks of life. Individuals residing in the homes are assisted in their individual day to day living which includes involvement within their community. Direct support workers assist individuals to develop and maintain existing natural relationships with their family, friends and community groups. The residential program promotes individuality and choices. Staff are able to support individuals in the choices they make.

SIL (Supported Independent Living):

The Supported Independent Living program consists of people who live in their own homes. Simaril provides support only as needed or required. The goal of Similar Independent Living is to lead individuals to the point that they need as little support as possible in their day to day living. This program assists an individual to live a more independent lifestyle of their choice. Individuals may ask for more or less support where they feel it is needed.
