Organizational Description: Wayfinders is a program in the 7 Oaks School Division. We help support students' success in high school and their successful transition to post secondary education and/or training.
We have an after-school program centre, where we organize mentorship activities and tutoring every day after school.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Wayfinders has a focus on building positive relationships with high school students working towards graduation in Seven Oaks School Division. Volunteers are vital to this and connect with students through tutoring as an academic support, mentorship through involvement in program offerings and engagement in our nutrition program run out of our kitchen.
Skills Required: -a willingness to work with students with different abilities & experiences
-ability to work in partnership with staff to support students
-an openness to being flexible and responsive to student and program needs
-confidence in math & science skill an asset but not required
Skills Gained/Related Careers: We want our volunteers to feel that they have gained from their experience at Wayfinders. Volunteers gain skills around communication, facilitation, instruction, and a deeper understanding of lived experiences of people from different parts of the world. This would be good experience for people thinking about careers in education, social work, child care and social services.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Evening, Weekend
Our program runs 6 days a week (Monday through Friday and some weekend activities). We are looking for tutors and mentors to support our program after school starting at 3:30pm. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of one 2 hour shift a week.
