Organizational Description: The Needs Centre provides accessible services and support to immigrant and refugee children and youth, and their families. Our goal is to enhance their integration into Canadian society by providing youth with employment, education and social recreation programs supported by psycho-social educators.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: The mentor will meet with their mentee for a total of 6 hours per month at times convenient for both parties. The mentor will plan low-cost, recreational activities with their mentee around Winnipeg with the help of NEEDS Centre staff. The mentor will contact the mentee and their parent/guardian to plan and schedule outings. The mentor will pick-up and drop off the mentee at their home before and after outings. The mentor will be a role-model for their mentee, listening, supporting through the mentorship relationship. The mentor will complete a Monthly Mentoring Report and keeps NEEDS Centre aware of any concerns or challenges they may be having on a regular basis. Having FUN!
Skills Required: For the most part, being a Mentor is just about being positive support and friend. However, we do provide you with initial training and ongoing follow up throughout the course of your partnership. Flexibility, responsibility, and empathy are desired skills.

Feel part of a wider community. Develop new friendships and relationships. Give back to the community by sharing their strengths and abilities. Develops and enhances ones resume and professional development skills.
