Organizational Description: Community Living Manitoba is dedicated to the full inclusion of persons of all ages who live with an intellectual disability (defined as a life-long condition, which interferes with one's ability to learn at the same pace or to the same extent as others). We are a strong provincial network working together with partners, families and governments. We seek creative and inspired approaches to support the empowerment of people with intellectual disabilities in all aspects of their lives.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Community Living Manitoba is dedicated to the full inclusion of persons of all ages who live with an intellectual disability. Living, working and learning in an inclusive community means that all people - including those with an intellectual disability - have a variety of opportunities to contribute to their communities.

Community Living Manitoba is a strong provincial network of 11 Local Branches working together with partners, families and governments. We seek approaches to support the empowerment of people with intellectual disabilities in all aspects of their lives.

INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

Meetings are held in Winnipeg, members living outside of the city can call in on conference calls.

Board members are expected to responsibly represent ACLMB to their respective communities and to advocate for ACLMB's mission and programs as appropriate.

1. Regularly attend board meetings, AGM and important related meetings.

2. Makes serious commitment to participate actively in committee work.

3. Volunteer for and willingly accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time.

4. Stay informed about committee matters, prepares well for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports.

5. Get to know other committee members and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.

6. Is an active participant in the committee's annual evaluation and planning efforts.

7. Participates in fund raising.
Skills Required: 1. A passion for the cause - emotional engagement with the mission supported by life experience (self-advocates, parents, caregivers, friends, colleagues, etc.) and ideally, enhanced by a record of community involvement - perhaps working for a similar cause or having relevant experience in another non-profit/charity.)
2. Ability to thoughtfully consider issues, and to articulate those thoughts.
3. A sense of responsibility for making things happens.
4. The time to deliver on a serious commitment to participate actively in the work of the committees of the board (research, comment, act)
5. A willingness to take on tough issues and work to resolution in a collaborative manner.
6. Participate in one (1) or more of the Committees of the Board.

1 Board Meeting every Month in the Evening. AGM once per Year on a weekend date. Fundraising Events.
