Organizational Description: Main Street Project is a not for profit organization that provides a safe, respectful, accessible place for individuals at risk in the community. We have an emergency shelter, a drop-in centre, a detox unit and a transitional housing space for our patrons. We advocate for a more inclusive society and assist marginalized individuals to make real choices.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Volunteers to facilitate workshops with our clients such as bingo, exercises, jewelry making, painting, arts/crafts, cooking, baking, etc.

This is a fun role with lots of opportunities for creativity!

Able to commit a minimum one day a week for minimum 2 hours a shift
Skills Required: Outgoing, engaging, patient, and professional
Ability to assist individuals in vulnerable situations in a non-judgemental manner
Adhering to housing first and harm reduction philosophy
Adaptability to changing roles and responsibilities
Ability to work in a team setting
Strong organizational skills and time management
Demonstrate communication skills, both verbal and written
Knowledge of the effects of mental health issues, poverty and Winnipeg's marginalized population is an asset
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Knowledge of the effects of mental health issues, poverty and Winnipeg's marginalized population is an asset
Support worker experience
Criminal record check including vulnerable sector check
NVCI (non-violent crisis intervention) an asset but not required
CPR and First Aid an asset but not required
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
Assist in our Detoxification/Stabilization, Supportive Housing, and Transitional Housing
