Organizational Description: Established as a community project and social service of Thrive aims to empower families and individuals by providing volunteer opportunities where individuals can learn employment, social and life skills and gain work experience! We work with newcomers, individuals overcoming mental health crisis as well as volunteers from various programs including disability programs,work experience programs, the Fine Options program, and volunteers doing court-mandated community service.

Volunteers gain employment references, fulfill mandated court orders, obtain volunteer reward benefits from EIA, interact with the community and so much more. Our awesome volunteers help to support community needs and by doing this we can offer a valuable service by providing affordable clothing, toys, linens & household items. All of the proceeds benefit the programs at the Resource Centre.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: - Accept money for purchases, giving change and recording all purchases in the cash register.
- Provide friendly and courteous customer service, being attentive to customers at all times. Answering customer questions or taking messages for the Coordinator.
- Promote sales.
- Tidy racks and shelves, arranging merchandise attractively and dusting as needed.
- Put newly priced donations in the proper places in the store
- Answer the telephone, giving simple information about the store and taking messages for Coordinator.
- Arrive at the thrift shop at least 30 minutes prior to the opening of the store. One clerk must be at the till at all times and two people must remain in the store until store closes at 4:00pm. (The store cannot be open unless two people are in attendance at all times.)
- Sweep or vacuum as necessary. Tidy bathroom and kitchen as necessary.
Skills Required: - Reliability in coming for scheduled shifts.
- Basic math skills and the ability to keep track of cash during a sale. (Cash register training is provided.)
- A friendly and helpful attitude.
- The ability to work in a busy environment.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Retail skills, customer service, cash register experience.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime
Shifts are typically either a full day (10-4:00) or a half day (10-1:00 or 1:00-4:00). We are very flexible! All available shifts are during the day from Monday to Saturday.
