How can we know if our programs are having an impact?
Social programs operate in complex environments that often make it difficult to evaluate the impact they are having. Yet staff and funders still want to know what difference their efforts have made. In the absence of complex experimental design, Contribution Analysis can be used to determine cause and effect to answer the question: How much has our program contributed towards the observed outcome?
What is Contribution Analysis?
Contribution Analysis is a specific analysis undertaken to provide information on the contribution of a program to the outcomes it is trying to influence. When it is not possible to design and implement a more comprehensive evaluation, Contribution Analysis can provide credible assessments of cause and effect.
This brief presentation will introduce participants to the concept of Contribution Analysis and will describe the steps involved in applying this approach in program evaluation.
