Canada Safeway invites you to submit nominations for Manitoba’s 2012 Safeway Celebration of Ability Award.
The Award
Canada Safeway admires the diversity of our province and reflects this in its workforce and the groups that it supports. As an employer of nearly 10,000 people with disabilities across North America, Safeway is especially proud to celebrate the volunteer achievements of those with disabilities who make a difference in their community.
Together with help from our customers, each year Safeway contributes over $3 million to Canadian organizations supporting people with disabilities.
This award honours Manitoba volunteers with a disability that inspire others through their hard work, generosity of time and spirit of character on behalf of an organization or community event. The award is open to all ages and invites those with all levels of ability to apply. A $1000 cash award will also be given to winner’s associated charity in recognition of the volunteer’s accomplishments.
Who Can Be Nominated?
Any disabled resident or individual in Manitoba that inspires others through their hard work, generosity of time and spirit of character on behalf of an organization or community event.
Candidates must have performed such a service on a volunteer basis only and not for pay.
Judging Criteria
- Manitoba resident or group.
- They inspire others through their hard work, generosity of time and spirit of character on behalf of an organization or community event.
- Judges may give special consideration to nominations that result in a long term benefit and have significant community impact.
Submitting a Nomination
Attach supporting documentation describing the exceptional volunteer efforts and community leadership of the individual volunteer.
Please include the following information in a concise document (five pages or less):
- IDENTIFICATION of a need in the community
- METHOD of which nominee addressed the need
- ACTIVITY the nominee undertook
- LEADERSHIP shown by nominee
- PERSEVERANCE in facing any challenges or obstacles the nominee may have had to deal with
- IMPACT of nominee’s efforts on individual person or group receiving help
- SUMMARY of the essence of the nomination indicating why the nominee should receive the award
Include any printed material such as letters, news clippings, testimonials that directly relate to the volunteer activity the individual is being nominated for.
