Call For Nominations

Launched on the occasion of the International Year of Volunteers 2001, the Lieutenant Governor's Awards recognize individuals for their contributions to the community through voluntary service.

The Honourable Philip S. Lee, C.M., O.M., Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba recognizes that volunteerism is one of the pillars of a strong society. Volunteering is a major component of a healthy community. These awards recognize and celebrate the outstanding efforts that Manitoba volunteers provide to their community.

The first level of the Awards is the Lieutenant Governor's Make a Difference Community Award. This award is presented to one individual from each region of the province (Westman, Parkland, Norman, Eastman, Interlake, Central, Winnipeg). From these seven regional recipients, one will be chosen to receive the overall Lieutenant Governor's Vice- Regal Volunteer Award. The awards will be presented by the Lieutenant Governor at the Volunteer Awards Dinner on April 17, 2012 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

Criteria

The Lieutenant Governor’s Make A Difference Community Award will be presented to individuals who have embodied the spirit of volunteerism and have made a lasting and meaningful contribution through their volunteer activities to one or more of the following:

  • Their communities
  • Charitable or non-profit organizations and groups
  • Community boards, associations, or groups
  • Public institutions (arts, education, correctional, health, libraries)
  • Church groups

Who Can Be Nominated?

Eligible nominees must:

  • Be living residents of Manitoba who have been actively involved in volunteer service.
  • Contribute significant time and service without any remuneration or compensation for their efforts.
  • Have made a significant contribution to the community and demonstrated the spirit of volunteerism.
  • Through their service, provide the community, peers and colleagues with a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of volunteerism.
  • Have done volunteer work in Manitoba

Judging

  • An independent panel of judges reviews all nominations and selects the awards recipients.
  • All nominators and candidates will be notified in writing of the judges' decisions.

Submitting a Nomination

Nominators are to complete the nomination form and include a letter of reference and/or support from a community member, business or organization. Tell us about your nominee and what makes this person exceptional. Please be as thorough as possible as the information received will be the only information available to the judges.

Include any printed material such as letters, news clippings, testimonials that directly relate to the volunteer activity the individual is being nominated for.
